Moving from XP to vista

Anyone know how to back everything up before reinstalling.

I know it's probably a question done to death.

I have photos, videos etc I want to keep.

I also have firefox favs, settings etc. also loads of downloaded software (legit) that came with keys.

How do others do it I take it we have some serious PC users here who reinstall often what methods do you use?

the only thing i install that needs a key is Windows, firefox settings are saved in %appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\RANDOM.default

so browse to %appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ and copy the contents of the RANDOM.default folder, and restore them to the new one once you've installed Firefox


copy & paste photos & videos, lol
 
it's still %appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

%appdata%
%userprofile%
%windir%

etc are universal from 2000 onwards

Thats the draws in the %appdata%\Roaming\Mozilla
I just copy the Mozilla draw.

I backup everything thats important to me to DVDs,even my Firefox bookmarks etc...always handy etc..never know when your HD might fail.

Got a HD 2.5" in a caddy and backed up vids and photos this afternoon. Will back up outlook PST and then firefox goodies then start seeing which programmes I can back up from Steam and FSX etc (I have downloaded some FSX third party addons.) I think I'm going to buy Retail version of VISTA as I CBA formatting and reinstalling new oems everytime I upgrade.
