Moving graphics card to second PCI slot

Had a look in my case. I have a Asus P7P55D Pro motherboard and GTX680 is so big it covers one of small PCI-E slots and then the next one is literally right next to where the card ends. So it seems I have no space to upgrade to a Creative Z sound card card.

The red rectangle represents where my GTX680 fits and the room it takes. Could I move my graphics card to the white PCI-Express slot and so this would free up the two small PCI-Express slots? Would I still get the same performance from my card? This is what the manual says about the PCI-Express slots

Im thinking of putting my GTX680 into the grey PCI-Express slot. It doesn't say it's 16X speed though?

You could put your sound card into the grey PCI-E slot

Though I think that will drop your GPU down to 8x

Stick the sound card in the black pcie 16x slot. This way it won't restrict airflow and the 680 wont cause interference.

How about an aftermarket cooler for the 680? Might be a bargain one somewhere?

Edit - yes as Disco_P says, why not in the black PCI-E slot, do you have something there already?
