Was just wondering if anyone has an idea of the costs of moving home from Aberdeen down to Plymouth?

Is nothing major as we are renting in a furnished flat atm, so no sofas, beds or white goods, just the general crap that 2 people gather.

Having never used a removals firm before (made the move up here form Plymouth last year myself in a big white van that was limited to 70 mph....) am not sure what to expect for the service and also the costs. Will they do all the packing, lifting and shifting and then subsequent unpacking at t'other end? or is it a case of you pack the boxes for them, they move em and then they move the larger items (not that there will be many of those)

Was sat thinking last night how much i really hate moving home and the uplift and hassle that goes with it...will have to find somewhere of our own after brief rental period to build up deposit and time with new job for mortgage reasons.

Pickfords offer a wrap & pack service, or they can just deliver the boxes, etc & you can pack your items.

Most firms send a estimator around to work out how much stuff you have, & from that what size of wagon you will need, & then they work out a quote for the removal depending on distance.

I had a friend move from Aberdeen to Bath, work out quite reasonable because they brought her down & took another removal from Bath back to Scotland.

When i moved from southend on sea to ipswich (80 miles) it cost £550 5 years ago, they supplied all the packaging and we packed, well worth the money as there was a lot of stuff and they take it to each room when you unload the van.

Where in Plym are you moving to?

I moved here earlier in the year.

Not decided on final location yet, but will be living in Peverall with a mate for few months until Mrs S comes down here (she has longer notice period and is covering holiday work, along with 2 month notice period on current gaff).

Been looking on Rightmove this afternoon for places though. Mrs S likes being able to walk into town, so will be placed somewhere within that radius i suppose. She has been looking at the Cargo 2 flats........

If you can get close to the Barbican or Stoke, they are nice areas :)

We moved to Keyham cause the other half got a job on the hoe (no jokes!)

Do you know Plymouth much?

Lived there for 6 years before moving up here so know it fairly well. Was last living in Royal William Yard but wouldn't want to live there again. Nice area but bad for parking and the flats were terrible for noise. Many a night i sat and listened to next door either having a domestic or their child screaming or then the other next door playing his bass. It did make for some interesting listening as i walked back and too from the main door to my flat and heard some people getting jiggy with it.......either that or they had some really good surround sound systems.

Cargo would be good as they have dragged most of that area up and is easy for me getting back and to to the dockyard. Also very close staggering distance to several great hostelries

oh fair enough... yeah I like the bars in the yard but that's about it :)

I like that artillery tower restaurant - if you've not been it's really good food

Agree it is good, but not been there for a long while. last time in there Mrs S had a wee bit to much wine and then launched in to a tirade about how useless consultants and senior doctors are to the chef as he did his end of service walkaround........while there was a table of consultants and senior doctors sat behind us. Radiographers+drink+strong opinions=fun times.

Am wanting to try Rhode's place and really looking forward to getting back to Tanners again, both main and Barbican Kitchen

Peverall is a nice area, my brother lives there and I used to live in Saltash! (enough said!! :D)

I would suggest the main removal firms and get some quotes! Good luck with the Move
