At the moment I am living at home with the parents and on Virgin Broadband, me and the missus are moving out in a few weeks to a flat in a non-cable area so we need a decent ADSL provider, preferably as cheap as possible! I have (so far) narrowed it down to these possibilities:

Virgin ADSL Unlimited Broadband & Talk:
£19.99 p/m
Up to 8mb
Unlimited usage (cant see this being true, what's the catch?)
Free TV (freeview basically)
Anytime landline calls

Sky Broadband Mid w/ Sky TV 2 Mixes:
£22 p/m
Up to 8mb
40GB Usage
Sky TV with 2 mixes
No phone included

ADSL24.co.uk Home 30 w/ Freeview box
£19.99 p/m
Up to 8mb
30GB Peak usage (300GB off peak)
Have to buy a freeview box
No phone included

We are leaning towards the Virgin package at the moment but I have never heard anything about Virgin's ADSL service, what do you lot think of it?

All comments are very much appreciated :)

Bear in mind that all 3 require a BT phone line, so you've got both a voice service and £11 a month line rental before you start.

what's the catch?

It isn't unlimited, but you'll be lucky to hit any limit thanks to crazy congestion. VM's ADSL service is utter garbage.

I'd go for ADSL24, Freeview and TalkTalk Talk2 which gives you free evening and weekend calls for 12 months :)

I'm just about to migrate to ADSL24 and have read a lot of good things about them, definitely sound like a good choice. Also a 1 month contract which I think the others will be 12 month, so you'd be pretty much stuck if the quality of service is poor.

There are many people on ADSL24 here so they'll be along soon and the TalkTalk deal is pretty straightforward as we're currently on it :) Also, you can cancel at the end of the 12 months and can sign up again for yet more free calls ;)

BeatMaster :D

one thing about adsl24, you'll have to pay £47 connection and get your own hardware. obviously they can't give it away like the other providers when you're on a monthly contract.

from what i hear sku llu is decent, not sure about their normal adsl?? and as mentioned above, avoid virgin adsl. they are terrible by all accounts. :)
