So I moved house a little while ago but only recently set-up my pc again and today I decided I would fire up a game on steam to kill an hour or two only to find that even though all my games are still in my list I need to download and install them all again :confused:.

Why is this? I didn't delete anything when I moved, would it have something to do with a different IP because of a new internet connection?

It is rather frustrating as I don't want to wait to download and play, I want to game now !

Hmm I never have that problem moving between uni and home.

I wish there was a "download all" button though as I recently changed HDD and going thorugh and selecting to install over 100 games is a bit of a drag really.
And I wish Steam would prioritise downloads better. It should start with the smallest downloads and work its way through them.

No, there shouldn't be any problem at all. Your ip change certainly wouldn't have affected it since you were most likely on a dynamic ip address as it was. Check the hard-drive to see if the games are still on it.

Have you tried actually downloading any?

Sometimes steam will imply it needs to download only to read them from the disk again, wierd bug but it has happened to me a few times.

Yeah I think when it says install it's just looking for the files so they can read them.

Hope it works out for ya.

I've never had an issue either and I've used steam at home and at uni.

I hadn't actually tried to re-install any yet. I bought the Crysis pack today so started that downloading to give it a go first but I will check one of my other games now

Nope they're all still gone, well I tried half life 2 and it just started downloading again :(

/cry.

Internet isn't superb at this place either... Aah, I fear a few over night pc downloads are ahead...

It's nothing to do with changing IP. As stated, it's something else wrong with your PC.

What size is your steam folder in windows file explorer?

17.5g, should be a lot more (downloaded crysis pack today, so they are the only games on there now).. I left it at a mates place while I was moving maybe he has been a fiend and deleted them . It must be this as I can't think of any other reason either. Was hoping the OCUK detectives might have another solution for me but oh well I'll live I guess :(

How did you move the games?

You only ever need to move the Steamapps folder to be able to play any games. You can even copy the Steam.exe and put it in a folder to rebuild the entire program.

I don't see how they can't be on the SAME computer. You only physically moved the computer to a different place. Not changed the HDD, re-install Windows etc.

I think it's safe to say that someone deleted them... unfortunately.
I really can't think of anything else.

I know, it is really frustrating as well.. I wanted to play a game today not sit looking at a download bar and wait lol. I jumped on starcraft 2 for a bit but at the same time I only play MP with that and so the downloads were going a lot slower while I played.

One thing to watch out for is Steam has some idiotic thing that automatically pauses downloads when you load a fullscreen game. Makes sense for multiplayer (to reduce lag) but you should be able to disable it for singleplayer. So when you fireup Warhead, make sure you tab back into Windows and unpause the downloads :)
