Moving ITunes library

I've been trying to move my ITunes library off of my primary hard drive but can't seem to work it out.

Currently my library is in the usual default location on Win 7 (C:\users\xxxxx\itunes). However, all of my non-ITunes music is on another drive (H:\music) where I would also like ITunes media to go. I've taken a look at a couple of guides and this is what I have done:

  • Changed location of ITunes media folder in ITunes Preferences to H:\music\itunes
  • Copied ITunes folder to H:\music
  • Started ITunes whilst holding Shift and pointed ITunes to database in new location

But this doesn't seem to have done anything. If I look at any of my ITunes downloaded stuff its still referencing the file on the C drive, not the H drive. This is verified by changing the name if the ITunes folder on the C drive which results in ITunes not being able to find the file.

Have I missed something obvious?
 
I wasn't sure whether to do this or not. My understanding is that this will create a copy of all tunes in my library and organise/rename them. Will it do this even for music I haven't purchased through ITunes.

For example, I have about 80GB of music from ripped CD's and the like, these are all perfectly tagged, named and organised just how I want them. I don't really want ITunes messing with these as they are fine as they are, and I don't really want all of my music duplicated either.

Or have I misunderstood and this will only consolidate music in my ITunes folder?
 
IIRC you need to update the database file manually if you want to move data that is not being managed/organised by iTunes directly.

I've done this a few times before. Case of editing the XML backup for the database file (search/replace folder location), removing the actual database file and then selecting the XML backup when you re-start iTunes.

Do a quick google, plenty of guides for doing this.

It was a pain in the arse, but there is software that makes it really easy, I can't remember what it was called thou, but a google search should give you several different programs
