Moving Itunes to Win 7

I did a trial win 7 64 bit installation this weekend, prior to doing a full install once my SSD arrives (hopefully by next weekend!)

I'm fairly happy with it so far, a lot of older apps installed and work which I wasn't expecting, but I've been trying to setup Itunes and can't get it to see my old playlists etc.

All my music files are on a separate HDD(drive D) in a folder called MP3 Files.

On my old Win XP setup Itunes had a directory in the My Music Folder in My Documents. This is where the itl and xml files were stored. These were my library database files right?

Where do I need to copy these files on Windows 7. I was hoping they would be picked up automatically, but they are not.

I can point Itunes to the MP3 files directory, where it finds all my music, but the playlists, & apps are missing. How do I sort this out?

Alternatively I have everything on my IPOD touch. Can I just restore the library from that? I'm afraid to connect it to Itunes just yet, in case it syncs and removes everything from the Ipod.

When opening iTunes, hold down the shift key. It'll then ask you which iTunes library you want to open. You can choose your old one from there.

there are plenty of websites about moving itunes from XP to Vista. The folders in W7 are almost identical to Vista so you should be fine.

I moved itunes from vista to W7 no probs. and XP to vista before that.

There's a very high chance it will do that.

Thanks for the replies.

Tried the shift key trick, selected my old library and now all my old playlists/play counts are all present and correct.

Just a couple more questions:

1. Will Itunes now keep and update the database files where I originally stored them? Or will they default to the C:\Users directory? If so can anyone point me to the exact path?

2. None of my previously purchased apps are showing. Will these only show once I have authorised the computer with the Apple store?
