I installed itunes on my ssd 250gb and all my media is on another HDD to keep space down on my ssd. Rather stupidly I didn't consider where the multiple IOS devices I had were going to dump the back ups. This is eating into my SSD.

I guess I could remove itunes completely and install it on another drive and re-run the back ups and link the media again, but is there a simple way to get itunes to start dumping the ios back ups onto another drive?

I've done exactly what you want to do. Make a folder on the other disk and create a symbolic link to that folder. Call the link "backup" and dump it in ~/library/application support/mobilesync

I actually moved the existing 'Backup' folder to my external drive and then created the symbolic link which I then moved to the original location.

Thanks so from then on all other back ups will go to the other drive? If I removed itunes completely does it delete all the back up data? I'm thinking whether it would be easier to move itunes completely to another drive as my itunes is a mess anyway. Or does it always put back ups on the drive with the OS?
