moving my windows 7 copy no new computer

hi,

i have windows 7 home premium installed on my laptop.
i have just ordered parts for my new computer build.

was wondering is there anyway i can deactivate windows 7 on my laptop and re install on my new computer and activate the key again ?

or do i need to buy a new copy of windows 7 ? (i hope not)

is it your copy thats on the laptop, or did it come with win 7 pre installed?

i bought the laptop off alienware last year and i got a free windows 7 upgrade when it was released. it came in a box with disk just like a retail copy.

You can do it but you technically won't be licensed as you need an underlying OS on the new build to upgrade from.
