Hi, I'm about to upgrade my motherboard and cpu for the latest tech, I'm currently running Win 7 Pro, all I'm going to do is replace these components and keep the rest of my hardware.

Will I need to start again and do a fresh install once I've done the move or can I just re connect the HD'S back up and just install the new mobo's drivers?

If the answer is no I cant? Is there a way I can, without re formatting and re installing the OS, basically the system is running smooth and I don't want to have to re install all my programs and user settings.

Any advice would be greatly received

windows will probably bluescreen when booting, although it might just refuse to boot altogether.

you're going to want to reinstall, although a repair-install would probably work, i wouldn't advise it.

Back up your stuff (which you should do anyway), but try it. I've replaced CPU + RAM + motherboard with Windows 7 and it works fine IF you can get it to boot, which it will 70% of the time based on what I've done in the past.

If it blue screens a fraction of a second after you see the spinning Windows "orbs" go into your bios settings and swap your AHCI/IDE setting around. If this doesn't work then in my experience it's not worth the time tracking down the problem and at this point you might as well reinstall.

Thanks, was hoping that would be the case with Win 7, I will give it a go when I do the build. What method do you use to backup your stuff?
