Moving on from 7800GT

Hi everyone,

I have had my 7800GT card (nvidia) for a while now and it still serves it's purpose very well though it is struggling a little with some games now and I have to play them on very low settings.

I have been incredibly impressed with this card though, it has taken everything I've thrown at it and still battles on to this day.

So now I want some advice on what to buy next. I see the 460 GT by Palit looks really tasty and affordable for what it is, but It's a little out of my range atm.

I want some advice on whether a GT 240 would be a good buy? Will there be much boost from my current card?

Another thing, is my monitor is only a crappy old 15" Lcd, so I was going to buy a new 22" Monitor which is full HD @ 50,000:1 for 110GBP and the GT 240 for 70 quid which would make for a really cost effective upgrade.

What do you guys thing, is the 240 a good card?

I have an Athlon II 435 Tri Core (AM3), MSI 770-C45 and a 600 Watt.

I might just buy a monitor this month and wait a month before buying a GPU so I have more to spend.

I haven't thought of second hand really, what would you suggest anyway?

well the best value card second hand i would say is the hd4870 can pick them up around £60 but if your not going to be changing your hardware for a long time defo go for the 460gtx as its got dx 11 and is more powerfull and buying new you'll get a warrenty i suggext the zotac as its cheap and comes with 5 year warrenty

If you go for a gtx 460, remember to get the 1gb version, as if you are planning on upgrading your monitor then you want the higher video ram for the hd resolution
