I'm currently running an E6600 and am looking for more oomph. The biggest thing the computer does is run Flight Simulator X which is heavily CPU bound. The rest of the time it does very little like run Apache server.

My question stems from the motherboard point of view. It's the MSI 975x Platinum Power Up Edition which has the following features:
  • Supports Socket 775 for Intel Core2 Extreme, Core2 Duo, Pentium 4 (Prescott, P4EE), Pentium D, Pentium XE/Celeron D processors in LGA 775 package
  • Supports FSB 533/800/1066 MHz
  • Supports Intel 05B/05A and 04B/04A processors
Some of the faster processors I've seen say FSB1333, the E8400 for example. Does this mean I cannot use this processor unless I have a better MB? Am I limited to 1066 only processors? I'm well out the loop on all this stuff so feel free to help a numpty.

Thanks.

The more I'm reading up the more I'm beginning to realise there's some big changes coming in both the CPU and GPU markets so I guess I'll attempt to push what I've got and wait for the dust to settle.

Well, it does appear that Nehalem is worth the wait so I'll OC my existing setup. Perhaps you guys can help out, I've started a thread here.
