moving on from opteron..or should i?

well, ive had my system a while now, and just wondering to myself if its worth me goin fer a lil upgrade..

currently got:

opteron 170 dual core @ 2850mhz
cooled with swiftech apex ultra+ watercooling
a+ twin engine 2x 250mm fan case
2gig dual channel ocz gold ddr ram
gainward 1024mb 7950gx2
dfi lanparty sli expert mobo
creative x-fi extreme audio
250gb maxtor sata2 hdd
pioneer db11bk 16x dl dvdrw
22" 1680x1050 gateway tft


processor wise what do you thing would be the next best step up?
i know it would be c2d, but if i was to go for a measley 6300 would it be worth it? noticeable? or would i have to go to a 6600 to notice the difference?

pure curiosity, but if i get some good answers, may have a 170 and a dfi fer sale lolol

in regards to my needs, well, encoding wise, i never do it at all so not much of a bother to me, i susally just use my pc fer gaming, and something to mod lol,

so would the c2d upgrade be really worth it to see good speed increases in games like "oblivion" "stalker" "hl2" etc?
