I am having quite a few issues with trying to rename or move files on a shared network drive with Windows 7 machines.

Quite often it will say the file or folder is in use when clearly it isn't. A restart normally fixes the issue for a while but then it returns. Its very random as you try it and it will give the error then try it again straight away and sometimes it works fine.

I tried disabling indexing as I though this may be the cause and it has maybe helped slightly but the issue still occurs.

Any ideas?

Btw, this is happening at a few different customers not just one, with different systems. The only same factor is the Windows 7 OS on the client machines giving the error.

Thanks

I'm going to bet that it's caused by Windows 7's Explorer process opening and reading files to generate file preview icons. Sometimes it seems to encounter a file that takes 2mins to process and you're locked in to waiting for it. If you check the open files on the server you'll usually find a file and thumbs.db locked in the share by the user.

I've not tried anything to fix it buy I guess turning off icon preview/thumbnails might work?
