Moving Time Machine backup

Hi guys,

My iMac currently backs up to a WD MyBook 500GB external drive for Time Machine, which is subsequently now full.

I have purchased a WD Essentials 2TB drive which I want to port the existing backup image over to, and then re-enable time machine.

The original drive was formatted as Extended Journaled Case Sensitive, therefore I have reformatted the new drive to be the same. In hindsight I think the recommended is just journaled, none case sensitive - but I don't think it makes much difference.

I have performed the following:

1) Connected new drive to iMac and reformatted via disk utility as Extended Journaled case sensitive.
2) Disabled Time Machine.
3) Copied 'Backups.backupdb' to the new drive

However, despite the process running for the past 10 hours or so, the copy process is seemingly stuck at:

'copying 67,809 items to time machine - 456,55 GB of 503.34 GB - About an hour'

The disk activity lights on both disks are also seemingly on 'standby' now too. This is the second time I have attempted the process annoyingly.

Anybody have any thoughts what might be going on here? I have also ran disk verification on the new disk via disk utility, and no faults were found.

Thanks in advance,

Grant

It would seem to be Finder at fault possibly. Using the force quit menu, and relaunching finder caused both hard disks to kick back into motion. However, it still won't get any further.

I have given up, in the process of making a fresh backup to the new disk, will just leave the old data on the old hard disk for 6 months or so until I'm sure I won't need it.

TBH in the 2-3 years I've been a 'Mac', I've only needed to use Time Machine on one or two occasions for minor stuff.
