Moving to a rural location

I want to move to a rural location, and my only concern is that I am at least about 250 metres away from my nearest neighbour. It would be nice to have "OK" internet as well.

I've been looking on places like Rightmove but can't find anything matching my requirements. I currently live in Surrey but would be happy to move anywhere in the country if it was within budget and met the criteria I laid out above. I guess I could afford about £600 a month so with that budget I was thinking Wales or Scotland.

Does anyone have any experience with this at all? I'm just really struggling to find anywhere decent at the moment.

Any help is appreciated :).

£600 a month? I assume you want to rent then?

It would be hard to get a place for £600 a month with mortgage and bills all in?

Internet sucks when you live out in the middle of no where, i max out at 400k ish a sec, closest neighbour is about 300 yards down the road. You just looking for somewhere for a single person to live?

Budget seems low if you truly want to be 250metres away. I imagine would need to be wales/Scotland with that money?

Yep. Renting.

I know the budget is low but I've been looking at you can get some places for about £500 a month in the middle of Wales. It seems much cheaper round there and I assume the same is true for some parts of Scotland as well. All I need is a one bedroom house as a minimum.

Yes. Just me. I thought that would be true of the internet.

That is a shame but something I am willing to endure for the time being.

Wales / Scotland is what I am looking at. Honestly, I don't care where it is in the UK as long as it is rural.

Is work not a consideration?

Somebody who wants to live on their own in a random rural area with no neighbours and fast internet seems like a pretty sad and lonely existence to me.

Renting would more than likely be doable up northwards

That is what I was thinking. Plus I have some family up north.

Due to health reasons, I have to work remotely and I guess it is but frankly at the moment I want to get as far away from civilisation as I can. The only problem is the lack of internet far away from civilisation :).

Much of rural Northamptonshire is getting Gigaclear. Your budget might get you something around there.

Oh, really? That sounds interesting. I'll check it out.

I am renting near Gaydon for £700, inc all bills, except telephone/broadband. can get some good rental prices around here, the flat next to mine will be free soon lol

Large 4 bed detached house near me for around £550 at Loch Rannoch (Scotland) Stunning location.

There are neighbours but they are mostly retired people. Miles of forest tracks and clean air. Mountains all around and a huge loch 5 mins walk away.

No light pollution. I have a big telescope and the views are amazing.

I have a place in Edinburgh and Loch Rannoch. I like the best of both worlds.

There is also another cheaper property here with giant sequoia trees in your garden. This property is more secluded with a wood burner etc, a must for living up there in winter.

I live near these properties with no close neighbours. Great for playing movies on the projector with the sound right up, no complaints :D

Oh, whats that I see on the horizon? Ah, not to worry, its just a brigade of armchair psychologists about to wade into this thread

Is the good Internet requirement a work / business related thing? Because like people said the reason you get cheap places in the middle of nowhere is the lack of work. If you run an online business I can kind of understand it assuming you can get the good internet.

£550 is pretty cheap. Sounds like you have a good setup there - best of both worlds indeed.

I like OP's idea personally, each to their own. I thought my home would last me but when I retire and parents are deceased I may look at somewhere much more rural, even in another country if it means my money goes further. Everywhere I live there's always been a noisy dog or two close by or noisy neighbour. Would be good to just be alone :)

Some folks work from home too. I know a few who live in fairly rural France and commute into London a week each month. That gives you an opportunity to leave anywhere really.
Some of us don't understand why people want to live in London :). Weeirrrd.

250m from the nearest neighbour and rent? In cash perhaps?

Planning doing a Dexter so people can’t hear them scream? :p

It’s a good price for a large property. I have a small one bedroom property but it’s more of man cave :D cheap to heat in the winter and a base for my expeditions.

Internet speed isn’t great but that should improve in the near future.

My girlfriend loves the peace and quiet but can’t wait to get back to Edinburgh after a few days lol
