Moving to AMD, does this look ok?

My Intel Motherboard has basically kicked the bucket so am looking to move form my 9700k and upgrade at the same time. I am new to AMD so I want to make sure I've not made a stupid mistake.

I have a Kraken X53 cooler, does anyone know for sure whether this is compatible/appropriate for the below? Also, is there a forum or page where I can check when these preorders will ship?

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £727.92 (includes delivery: £7.99)

What's your main /heavy use workload , e.g gaming ?

All parts are compatible.

Pre orders not sure about but a phone call or webnote is usually the way to go.

AM4 mounting is the same for AM5 so if your cooler is AM4 which I think it is your good.

You have a few options then, you could go for the fastest gaming CPU the 7800x3d which performs like a 7700x in processing but the 12 cores of the 7900 will be beneficial for editing.

Check out reviews on the 7800x3d.

There is a 7900x3d but at over £550 ain't cheap.

Am4 Coolers that don't require custom backplate
Should in theory fit am5
But nzxt state there's a small height difference
And although it will fit they don't recommend it
Applies to x and z range nzxt Coolers
Are they being over cautious?
Perhaps
But they were offering am5 brackets
To existing owners

Thanks, I've had a look and it looks like I can request one from their website. I'll get that requested either way.

I'll need to double check what PSU I have, might need an upgrade on that as the 7800x3d is 125w?

I'm not actually sure whether I am on 750w or 850w.

Ah, good news anyway, got home and checked it is an 850w Gold PSU so no problem there.

The only problem I have now is that my Kraken x53 will need that AM5 bracket and NZXT do not want to send it out until I provide them proof of purchase of the CPU or Motherboard... And not sure how long it will take them to post it either.

Unfortunately got no idea how fast they
Will be with it
If you need it fast you have 2 options really
Risk it without the am5 part
Grab a decent air cooler while waiting
If the peerless assassin will fit in your case
It's a great cooler for roughly £40
Or 3rd option don't bother trying to get the part
And buy a new AIO

Here is my new basket, all in stock and looking good? I have read that this reention kit can be used to mount the X53, I believe they are the same manufacturer and reviews online seem to say that it is compatible.

Asetek Premium Retention Kit AMD AM5 and AM4 (35-150-1000056)

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £766.92 (includes delivery: £7.99)

Make Sure you update the bios on the motherboard to the latest bios it has fixes.

@freddie64 Yeah it's quite possible nzxt
Are being over cautious
It's not so much will it fit on there
As its the ihs is thicker/higher on the am5 cpu
So more a case of once it's on there
And you start screwing it down
Will it apply too much pressure
Over the years I have done all sorts of stuff
That I shouldn't have and it worked fine
But I knew there was a risk
So I wouldn't tell someone to take the risk
With their expensive cpu just because I would do it
I assume big companies like nzxt etc
Would have some way of testing mounting pressure
Whereas us DIY guys do it by yeah that feels OK

Have to side with nzxt on this one
If they are being over cautious that's better
Than companies like asus and the soc voltage carry on
For example
And that replacement is only a fiver any way

I think the AM4 backplate on the motherboard is removable and the AM5 is not? At least for cooler design purposes.

The nzxt will fit AM5 without the AM5 bracket but you can risk over tightening it. If you just hand tighten it and stop at the signs of resistance it would probably be OK.

I sent nzxt my invoice for my Kraken on the form they have and it took about 4 or 5 days but it was over a weekend so really 2-4 I think. They ship from California though but I think it was DHL maybe?

You should be able to send them the serial number from the Kraken you have if you don't have the original invoice / receipt. Will they not accept that?

Just noticed the different sized standoff things in the mounting kit, so you are probably correct.
