Moving to Cheshire

Ideally you want to be looking along the stretch of M6 J18-20 for somewhere OK and within distance of Manchester and Liverpool. Due to the restrictions with your budget you will have to compromise on location, also a major factor is how bored your kids will be.

If you want more bang for your buck then look at Stoke, Ok it has a reputation but there's a lot to do and house prices are low and its only an hour up the M6/M62 to Liverpool and you have a choice of 3 routes into Manchester.

FYI I moved from Stoke to rural Cheshire 4 years ago.

Forgot to say have a look at Northwich, you can get a 3 or 4 bed new build for £180k

If you don't mind the inbred bigoted locals, new incinerator plant, salt mine subsidence and years of disruption should HS2 go ahead.....

Hi all, sorry didn't realise this was a computer forum. Thanks for your comments anyway.
Btw I have seen 4 bed detached houses in Winsford, crewe, warrington for 190-210k. So it id doable.

Thanks all. Main reason for moving is to be mortgage free. At present my mortgage is huge, not nany years left ti pay it off. So no choice but to move. My sons and I pretty much struggle financially so we are all agreed moving and starting afresh mortgage free is the answer. My 19 year old is in his 2nd year of a carpentry apprenticeship, he can transfer to any college anywhere to complete it. I contacted South Cheshire College recently and they confirmed they would find him a placement once we've relocated. My eldest whose 21 will find work in admin etc. I have visisted Crewe/winsford and found 4 bed detached houses for around 190-210k. I picked cheshire as it seems like an area we would be happy in.
Not sure about renting, we may opt for a property in Winsford. If after a year or so we find another area we like. We'll take our chances by selling again.

I used to Live in Culcheth and agree with your sentiment. I moved there after Leigh and Lowton, possibly more affordable areas for the OP.

I live in Lowton. Its nice enough and I have a 3 bed detached for around the budget the OP was saying. Its not rural, but its as close to rural as you can get around here without spending mega £££ for somewhere further south, like Lymm.

Culcheth has a lot of nice bits, some really nice bits, then the odd dodgy bit here and there. Its massively over-priced for what you get though. It made no sense for me to buy there as I could get so much more for my money 5 mins drive up the road in Lowton.

Newton-le-Willows is alright if you pick the right part, and its on the rail network.

Rightly or wrongly I am just not a fan of Culcheth. Croft, you are onto more of a winner for a nicer area. I know what you mean about the houses around Leigh but my wife currently works in Leigh I would never move there.

Yeah, I wouldn't live in Leigh. I live about as close as I want to get to Leigh. Croft is alright, but its too near motorway noise for my liking. That's what put me off living in Birchwood. Its got nice houses, very overpriced but as soon as you step into your garden you hear the roar of the motorway in the distance. It did my head in. Lowton still has traffic noise to some degree but its significantly more tranquil! West of Warrington can be alright too, but a little hit and miss.

Look along the Liverpool to Manchester line (e.g. Widnes, Warrington) and you're going to need to pay more than £200k for semi-rural 3 bed. You might find 3 beds for that price around the centre/run down areas of the towns but generally speaking, if you want the nicer parts (e.g. Cronton, Upton Rocks), you're going to be paying closer to £300k. I don't know much about the areas around Manchester though.

I'm with you. I work between Leigh and Lowton (Moss Industrial Estate) and whilst some of the houses on the main road towards Leigh look lovely i wouldn't want to move here!

Your best bet is the Wirral. Good links to Liverpool or Manchester and cheaper housing, some nice rural parts and price can vary but 200k for a 3-4 bedroom detached is do-able in some parts.

There are a number of new housing developments is / around Northwich, Davenham, Sandiway and Cuddington (off the A556)

Another option is Kinsgmead (large housing development / "rural villiage") just outside Northwich / towards Davenham just off the A556 - not to everyone's taste but can get decent enough properties for ~around your budget

Some parts of Crewe are pretty rough, but Haslington is nice. Crewe town center is a bit rough though, and so are the people.
