Might sound a wee bit mad looking at my spec in sig, but my 3770k aint a great clocker. Hence im thinking of selling the cpu and mobo and going for the following.

After selling the cpu and board in sig, it wouldnt cost an awful lot for the switch. Besides ive been doing a load of overtime at work, and normally the cash would be blew on silly things like booze and horses lol.:D

i would say, its kinda pointless ;)

but i wouldnt tell someone how to spend their money, and the 4770 is definitely faster. But it is entirely possible your haswell isnt able to get to 4.5 but i would say it should at least slightly surpass your current build.

also ditch the maximus zero. and get with the hero.. no wait, extreme!

Extreme, i wish mate lol. Btw, how are you finding the difference over your 920? Iirc you had a god un at 4.4ghz ono. Ive considered x79, (true x58 replacement tbh), but the good chips and boards are hideously expensive. As an sli user, id like to get the very best out of my cards.

it is a nice step up from the 920. its overclocked performance in cinebench for example, was still lower than the 4770k at stock.

i would also only consider an x79 if it was the 3930/60k. no point in that 3820 imo. no offence to the owners of said chip ;)

but aside from heavily multithreaded apps, the haswell is quite often faster anyway, especially in games. and still much cheaper.

The 3820 is a hidden gem, with gateways to better upgrades that really will matter in the future... Tri sli, 6 cores etc. plus I can 5.1ghz my bad boy on an antec 920...., although I think it gets a little toasty.

But yeah... Each to there own, 6 of 1, half a dozen of the other. The 3820 is not for everyone. The 4770k certainly will not disappoint unless your in the 70% that struggles to hit over 4.5 ....

I came from a 4.2ghz 920 to firstly a 3570k, (bad mistake tbh). I still have a 930 at 4ghz but its no good for sli, it's board is too tightly spaced and it bottlenecks the 670's quite a lot. Haswell, and indeed ivy seem to be great systems for memory overclocking/performance though, moreso than x79.

Can do quad sli on the z87 :)

Can do. Enjoy saturating those pci lanes with the plx chip :-) it just isn't the same.

1150 is a great mainstream platform. I would have gone for it, except it isn't enthusiast enough for me. 6 core ivy-e for me soon!

er, yeah right ok.. clearly read some reviews of quad sli on the platform its fine.

speaking of saturation, hows your pcie 3 working out? not so good i hear! ;)

indeed, they are both good platforms. anyway, the war is against amd people not amongst ourselves! hehe

Yes, but if we did not get are Handbag's out now and again the forum would be boring, as long as you don't go to far.

Good luck with your upgrade, looking forward to hearing how it goes, the only way is up.:)
