Moving to the North

Thanks again for all the reply's. It's totally overwhelming but is also giving me loads of ideas. Looking for places a bit further south on our return journey. Any thoughts on Loughborough? Seems to be some decent houses in the surrounding areas.

From stokesley originally and the majority of Boro is a hole.

You should be able to get a 2 or 3 bed detached somewhere like ingleby barwick or you want something a bit more quirky how about

Both IG and Yarm are a lot closer to the NY Moors and Yarm is mostly infinitely nicer than Boro

Thanks for the tip on IG and Yarm. Checked them out today and they were lovely. Very small gardens as most seem to be newish builds but very nice area.

No probs and ingleby is also handy for the motorway / into Boro / Stockton and into the countryside. Have mates who used to live there (as did my sister for a few years) so spent quite a bit of time on the "Estate"

Personally I'd go for Yarm out the two but won't get quite as much for your money :)

Yarm is lovely indeed, what about stokesley/ great ayton/Thirsk or Northallerton. All possibilities if your not bothered about renovations. I worked in stokesley for 7 years, great town leading into North Yorkshire

Wouldn't get much for his budget though?

Possibly depends how run down the house is. It's be a tough task to find something I agree, but the location is worth it.

Agree with you, I grew up in stokesley / lived there for 20 odd years. You may get a very nice, but very small terrace on west green or levenside but would need some work

Morpeth is a nice place and reasonably central for other nice areas in the region.

It's also expensive mind.

Looked at loads of places around county Durham today. All reasonably nice. Bishop Auckland was nice and reasonable price. Didn't like Consett as much as we thought we would. Durham is a lovely city and much nicer than Middlesbrough.

Bishop Auckland is OK but it's difficult to get anywhere from there. You might want to bring it east a little bit so you're closer to the A1.

We will need to find jobs and rent for a while until we can buy something. Looking like we may rent near Middlesbrough or Durham so far and then hopefully buy something when we are in a position to do so. Looked at a semi detached for 65000 that actually looked alright. The town looked down in the dumps, bus shelters all smashed etc. Looked like a run down Cornish town where you would pay at least three times that though

Could just buy this - https://www.millerhomes.co.uk/new-homes/north-east/portside-village-eston/the-pearwood-008.aspx

The name "Portside Village" is a bit of a con like lol.
