Hey all,

I know what your thinking, yet anothing XP to Vista thread but meh.. :p

I am planning on moving over from XP Pro 32 to Vista 64 tomorrow and upgrading my memory from 2x1gb to 4x1gb.

Is 4gb enough in Vista 64 and will 4x1gb run ok or would 2x2gb be any better

Anything else I should consider before making the 'big' move!

Thanks, Sam

Yes 4gb is enough for Vista 64. I have 4x1gb however I've heard that 2x2gb has advantages in that it doesn't put such a load on the memory controller and therefore is easier to overclock as it's just 2 sticks instead of 4.

:D

4Gb is more than enough even for vista and either 4x1Gb or 2x2Gb will do although the former is usually better if you are overclocking the RAM, but as said they put more strain on mem controller but it can usually be overcome by increasing the north bridge voltage a little. 1Gb sticks usually have faster rated speed and lower timings as well. I'd go for 2x2Gb only if you intend to upgrade to 8Gb later.

I'd go for the 2GB ones mainly because you then have the potential to upgrade. The price difference isn't really an issue as well.
