Location
West Bridgford
Hi everyone

After 10 years in London, I am making a big move out to West Bridgford, near Nottingham. I was wondering if

- Anyone here has made a similar relocation, and what it was like?
- What are the best things to do in and around West Bridgford and Nottingham? Pubs, Restaurants etc...

I'm a bit excited as it will be quite a change in lifestyle as I'll be working from home 3 days a week and commuting to London the other 2, staying over one night with friends. Not sure how that will pan out but work have been really good about it.

many thanks for your opinions

I've lived in west Bridgford. I moved away a month ago and regret doing so, it was a great location. Where, if you don't mind me asking, in WB are you moving?

The town centre has plenty of pubs, and whilst you say 'near Nottingham' it's still practically Nottingham as the bus takes less than 10minutes to hit the centre of Notts. You've chosen a good area of Nottingham (near the city wise).

Thanks for the info!

Its a road off the A60, just south of the river. We looked round the area and really liked it.

We're moving because of my wife's job, so we were almost forced into Nottinghamshire. We thought about Newark, and a few other places but West Bridgford really stood out from the research.

Every time we've been there its been really nice, and the people are nicer than in London (sorry Londoners, but it's true).

Good choice, I just moved from Elm Tree Avenue, which is just off the A60. Heading into the 'town centre' on a weekend is a good choice, plenty of little bars, like I said, and the Oriental Pearl is a great chinese restaurant if you're into that.

West Bridgford is definately one of the nicer areas of Nottingham. Some roads are predominantly student houses, since its right on the bus route to both Nottingham Trent campuses, but its still a great place to live.

It has pretty much everything you need close by in pubs, shops, supermarkets (24hour asda woop!), 2 football grounds and a cricket ground, and as was previously said, 10 minutes to the city centre.

I love Nottingham, its small, but it's got everything you could want, and its gradually getting more and more upmarket in some areas.

I used to live in West Bridgford and worked in Ruddington. We ended up moving out to Newark for a number of reasons, mainly due to property prices being much cheaper in Newark and it having a proper town centre. We wanted a reasonable house for our money in a nice area. For the amount we were paying for a 1 bed flat in George Road, after putting down a £20 K deposit, we have been able to purchase a 2 bed house in a culde-sac in the centre of Newark with a garage and drive way.

This was actually a mistake in one way because the road between Newark and Nottingham is very congested and it frequently used to take me 1hr 20 minutes to drive the 20 miles into work. Luckily I ended up finding a job closer to home on similair money which saves me a great deal of time and money.

Living in Bridgford was lovely, though the place did lack things to do. Although it is classed as a town in its' own right, most of the shops are odball little places, with a lot of charity shops thrown in for good measure.
Common high-street names include - M&S Food, Piza Hut Take away, Argos (smalll branch), and a few banks too.I also believe a Piza Express has opened there recently. They also have an Asda down Loughborough Road. If you want to do any serious shopping you need to head into Nottingham Centre, which as has been mentioned is 10 minutes on the bus, or a 30-40 minute walk.

cheers Hax, I think most of the going out will be done in Nottingham, but when it's so close it won't be a problem :)

What are the IT jobs like in Nottingham? I work in London atm, and my work has been very good, but you need to know how the land lies ;)

Get into Kayaking, or some other water sport. You will be withing walking distance of Holme pierrepont, the national white water course centre.

Good point, forgot to mention that. Great fun down at HPP, just try your best not to swallow any of that dirty Trent water :p

Oh yeah, drink coke after going down the course!!!
If you need any kayaking advice, go to a shop called Desperate Measures. Really helpful guys in there and can point you in the right direction if you want to start kayaking etc

Glad it went well, I live the other side of Nottingham in Netherfield. I loke living here, hope you get on ok.
