Hi All

I've got a website which I've been working on over the last couple of weeks. It's been hosted for me for free but yesterday when I went to do some more work on it, it seems the host is down. I've tried contacting but the websie of the person hosting for me is also down.

Was good while it lasted but I think I'm going to have to move to a paid server, I'm thinking Vidahost or TSO or someone similar seeing as they seem to be recommended a lot on here.

I also have google mail setup for the domain, which is setup for use via outlook express, which seems to be also not be working now, so I'm guessing this will also need sorting out.

Now, my question is, how easy is it to move from onehost to another? And what will I have to do..baring in mind I'm a total novice with this kind of thing!!! lol

Any help much appreciated!!!

Very easy :D

Whip over the files, setup the email/databases on the new host's control panel, update the nameservers to theirs, wait for DNS to update.

Done!

If you use any e-mail addresses or databases these would need setting up on the new host through their control panel - either of the two hosts you mentioned (and any other decent host too) will be able to transfer the site for you and help with setting up any e-mail accounts or databases you might need :)

Email I use is a google mail account that has been set up so I can send from it and receive in outlook express. It doesn't seem to be working at the moment so I guess it must in some way be setup to use the hosts server in someway??

Don't use any databases that I'm aware of...

God I really am a proper novice with this stuff!!!

Is there a control panel on your current host - if its cPanel then the likes of Vida or TSO may be able to do a cPanel to cPanel move. All that means is you give their tech guys your current IP / domain name, your username and password and they will pull everything across for you.

May be worth asking - however, this will only work if your current host is up!!

ow that sounds useful as my current host has come back up but i still want to move.

Also means I wouldn't have to worry about how to move my wordpress installation etc
