Hi all,
Just looking for some peace of mind/info before I crack on with the following scenario:
PCA - I have a machine currently running Windows 10 Pro - It was previously Windows 7 Pro which I have the DVD including case with license key on and was upgraded during the digital entitlement/free upgrade push by MS way back when.
PCB - Just taken delivery of a new build machine mobo/CPU/RAM/PSU/case and simply want to take the SSD from the machine above and put into this new build (it's father in laws, lots of software that nobody on this planet wants the hassle of re-installing/configuring on a fresh Win10 build).
My plan is to disk2VHD the current Win10 install on PCA and store the created VHD on external drive in case it all goes wrong. After that I was just planning to run sysprep on PCA, plug the SSD into PCB and bootup and sort out the drivers.
What is going to go wrong and ruin my evening? First hurdle will be it booting up at all, which if it does, happy days. After that it is licensing that's the nightmare.... Will it let me boot into win10 pro if sysprep works and I can then call MS and say it's in a new motherboard system and having them do their thing?
I was just going to bash on and see what happens but worth chucking up a thread to see what people say as I am sure plenty people have done this in the past.
Thanks!
