I've just bought a new Crucial M4 256gb SSD as my old 60gb OCZ is starting to play silly buggers.

I need to move everything from the old one to the new one. Is there a simple way of doing this other than re-installing everything?

Don't know about the transfer software, will have a proper look when I get home.

Will look into windows back up too. Can you tell me where to find it? presumably control panel?

Thanks for the advice, I managed to clone the original SSD onto the new one, but it partitioned the new SSD, so I used MS Disk Management and opened the rest of the new SSD so it has the operating system files (about 100mb) partitioned (as the old SSD) and all the programs etc on another partition along with about 180gb of spare space.

Disconnected the old SSD and it ran perfectly. Formated the old SSD for future use.

And all this was done on a brand new gigabyte ga-z77-d3h mobo with a new i5 3330 cpu and 8gb ram. It now takes about 2 sec to get to windows and probably about 8 sec to open windows. Can't believe the difference its made having a modern mobo with suitable bits!

Nothing challenging about Clonezilla at all - I just used it to change my Win7 SSD from 128Gb to 250GB SSD.

Download, burn to CD, boot from CD, copy SSD. Very painless.
