Just letting you all know, you'll probably get an auto update thing pop up when you're in Firefox if you're using latest versions.

Just to let you know incase you don't get auto update thingy ;)

Craig.

Cheers for the info. Just ran the Update check and it found the 1.5.0.2 update. I probably would have been informed, but not before finding out about it on OcUK or something.

Mine updated manually during the night, don't know why it took so long though as 1.5.0.2 came out a day or two ago.

Have the memory leaks been fixed yet? If so, may make the move to firefox
I have an FF page with one tab. It's using 173.4Mb RAM... and rising. I've only got it open because the page isn't supported in the IE7 pre-beta 2.

FF is far quicker than IE7, but it is a beta.

The memory leak issue isn't a matter of a missed semicolon somewhere in the source code; it's a large, underlying problem which will take a long time to fix. Still, I don't find it a hassle and couldn't imagine using a different browser in the meantime :)

I got the autoupdate last night after reading about it yesterday. Here's a brief summary of the changes (click here for a more detailed list):

  • Universal Binary support for Mac OS X which provides native support for Macintosh with Intel Core processors. Firefox supports the enhancements to performance introduced by the new MacIntel chipsets.
  • Improvements to product stability.
  • Several security fixes.

Yeah, it'll take a long time to fix. But surely their priority is to fix big bugs first?

The leak doesn't effect me, yeah it can take 200mb+ at a time which doesn't bother me or slow my PC down, but i'd have though they would have fixed that one asap.

Wow... never had FF go over 80MB even with loads of tabs open. Reducing the amount of plugins, themes and extentions will lower the amount of RAM it uses.

If I get any mem probs (very rarely) then a simple restart of FF cures it. The only sites that give me odd problems are poorly coded mishmash sites like gamespot.com which I avoid, if certain bits can't even render in IE let alone FF then I'll avoid it for good.

The update happened in the background for me. I was just looking at some work I was doing on the other tft and FF was silently updating on the other. Sweet!

Memory leak is no big deal! Mine has taken 179MB after 3 days 2 hrs and four instances with a total of 32 tabs open between them.

Mine is using 91mb with 4 tabs open and 21 extensions active - I dont notice any slowdowns at all though and 99.999% of the time this mem usage is a total non issue UNLESS you browse threads which have full res photos posted in them.

You know...pr0n threads ¬_¬

Same here, I also never notice an issue with performance no matter what memory it's taking.

Right now it's taking 40mb with just OcUK open. Has taken around 300mb before though, but as I said that doesn't bother me and I don't notice any slowdown.

who cares if it uses loads of ram? xp/2003 memory management is good, so when you close it, it'll free it back up again

its not as if pc's grind to a hault becuase ff is open..
