Hi all

been trying to find out, how to back up my emails and then i want to reformat my computer and put the emails back

Dows anybody know how to do it?

Which type of email account do you have? If it's IMAP you don't need to back anything up as IMAP keeps emails on the server and not your PC, unlike POP3.

You could look at copying the email folders themselves: http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/faq#export

navigate to the folder your emails are stored in copy entire folder to a safe location, format reinstall then start thunderbird.exe with -p option to create a new profile and point it to the location of your saved profile, job done.

I keep my profile on a separate drive and have done this since thunderbird entered the scene many years ago and never had a problem.

This. It will copy all your folders, emails and settings and you just re-install them when needed.
