Just wondered what the folks use to *ahem* backup their CD's to MP3/OGG etc.,

I use iTunes with Apple's built in AAC encoder set to VBR 160kbps. Very good sound quality, certainly adequate for music on the move.

Yeah if I was picking up one of the new 160GB iPod Classics I think I would opt for Apple Lossless for at least my most listened albums.

Last one I did was in iTunes, iirc.

And, iirc it was mp3 @ 160kb/s.

I've been using Apple-Lossless to rip my cd's just recently but I get awful clipping on certain tracks. I'm not sure if it's due to scratches on the CD or a software/hardware problem.

Anyone got any ideas?

It seems if I turn off "use error correct whilst ripping" it solves the problem

EAC is the best ripper. that and any of the top encoders in their respective formats will give you the best results. ie; LAME, FLAC ect
