Hi

i have a LOT of MP3 music ripped from my CD collection, from when MP3s were introduced to modern day. Over the years i have used a multitude of apps to rip and they have meant that MP3 file data varies. On my PC/Ipod this is no issue at all and they all play fine. HOWEVER, i have an Alfa Romeo with a USB plug which allows MP3s to be played through the stereo from a USB stick.

Some of my files play, others cause it to crash. I have burned the MP3s and then reripped them and this seems to make them compatible.

The ONLY difference i can see in the file properties is that the header for the file has an "original" field: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP3

If this is "yes" my Alfa doesnt play, if this is "no" my Alfa plays. I'd like to test that switching this to no will fix it, and if so i'd like to apply it to my whole directory. I guess a Hex editor could do this, but i am not familiar enough with where i'd find this field in the hex editor etc, and this wouldnt be able to do my whole directory anyway.

any help/tips suggestions, i do not want to have to re-rip my CD entire collection.

EDIT - i should add i do not mean ID3 Tag info.

The "original" field is a new one on me, but you could try loading some of your non-playing MP3s into foobar2000, right-click on them, and run "Utilities > Fix VBR MP3 header" and/or "Rebuild MP3 stream" and see if it makes any difference. :)

hi mate

i got the data on the original field from MP3 Tag Tools v1.2. Had just tried the foobar trick, and doesnt seem to fix it. Thanks for the suggestion though.
