Im looking for a mixer with jog pads and all the usual stuff that allows you mix tracks as per vinyl.

I sold my decks a year or so back and want to try something a bit different.

Anyone got any ideas? something I can rig up to the laptop, speakers and software and utilise my existing MP3 collection.

Cheap as you like to start with

I was in the same position as you, having sold and sadly missing my decks.

I bought a behringer bcd3000 about a year ago. It is great as an midi controller and the tracktor software was to my liking but the jog wheels were very flimsy and certainly no substitute for decks. They are only really suitable for cueing up stuff - any in play maniputlation is out of the question. It has a built in soundcard though which makes it ideal for using with a laptop.

The hercules steel is reported to be a bit more substantial but I don't think this or it's bigger brother the RMX have built in sound cards so you will need to add that as well

It was a year ago I looked into this so there may be other stuff out there now

When you say cheap, how cheap do you mean? I sold my Hercules RMX for £130 second hand not long ago - sounds perfect for what you want to do and easily the best built one that I used.

I have a Behringer BCD3000 that I'd let go for cheap to a fellow ocuk'er, ofcourse we'd go to the MM to sort it if your interested?

Its a fun bit of kit for sure, having its own audio out is very handy so you don't have to fart around with your own soundcard.

My flatmate has a Numark one and tbh its so frustrating to use, I hate it. The inputs are very laggy to the point that you can't cue properly because of the delay ~0.25 of a beat out. Also the controls feel very spongey and the EQs are crap.

Tbh I'd get some cheap CD Decks. I have a couple of second hand Stanton MP3 CDJs and they do the job much better than any PC mixing console.

Does it have a headphone in for cueing? etc Seems most stuff you need a sperate card etc do enable to mix channels through the soundcard.

It has a built in sound card with RCA outs and a headphone out, makes it a lot less hassle farting around with the analogue outs on your sound card. Just plug it in USB, run some rca's to your stereo and turn it on!
