My father phoned me in work today and asked if i could sort him out with an mp3 player. He's 70 next year and just wants something to use around the house and in the garden during the summer.

Not owning an mp3 player or ever having looked into purchasing one im not sure what would be best for him or his needs. I immediately thought about an ipod nano, but id heard youre restricted to playing only songs bought off itunes with ipods or has this changed? The only other one that springs to mind that ive seen people talk about is a Zen but like i said i know next to nothing about whats hot and whats not. He's set a budget of £100. Any suggestions?

You've never been restricted to itunes songs, just restricted to using the god awful peice of software (my opinion, please don't start this debate again) to manage your music on there.

I recommend Creative Zen 4GB MP3 Player

Very good, and if he does fill up the 4gb of memory it is expandable with an SD slot.
