BT have recently installed a PBX at work and the engineer recommended that we purchase an mp3 player for the on-hold music as it would be a much cheaper option than BTs solution.

What type of player is the best to get.I’m guessing I require a player which can draw its power straight from the mains or a pc and can be left to loop the songs that are contained on it. I'm guessing that any player that uses an aaa type battery will not play forever as it will not charge via the pc or a dock.

As cheap as possible please, an ipod is out of the question.

Get a cheapo portable CD player with a mains adapter, you could pick one up for less than £20.

MP3 player would be more reliable as there are no moving parts to go wrong. Wouldnt use a cheap CD player as a DMOH myself. Our PBX acually has a powered USB port which is normally used to config the PBX, but could be used to keep an mp3 player charged.
