Hi All,

My trusty Sansa Clip+ just died (battery) and from looking around... I can get one for £59 or wait for stock (possibly forever?!?) so it has thrown me a bit.

It's a ridiculous price compared to what I first paid.. however my other options are the Fiio X1 or an iPod Nano 16Gb.

The price is quite a jump but I can't bring myself to pay over the odds for a Clip+

I've read a lot of reviews on the X1 and it seems to indicate firmware support is awful and it gets worse with every version plus there is no Rockbox.

The iPod... is Apple, need I say more :p (I just don't want to use iTunes and mess around)

Have I missed another alternative in the £40-100 bracket or is this it? :)

I'm avoiding second hand...

X1 is the best at the top of that budget, by far. Clip+ is the best at the bottom of it.

Cowon can be worth a look but at your budget you'll be getting one of their cheaper items which aren't quite as good or as well received as the X1 or indeed their better models.

FiiO will be releasing their new DAP next month, the M3, which promises 8GB memory + microSD card (up to 64GB), 18 hour battery life, plays FLAC, APE, OGG, MP3 etc and it's selling price is only $55, which probably means around £50 ~ £60 in the UK.

They are also releasing the K5, the successor to the E09K amp/dock, which will allow the X1, X3, X5 and X7 to be docked directly.

I like the sound of the K5, and the M3 sounds like a great solution for someone who doesn't want to spend £100 on a PMP. Might look into getting one as my Sony is 7 or so years old and is only 8GB. Don't use portable enough to spend £100 on an X1, but £60 would be ideal.

Hasn't the Sansa Clip+ been discontinued and replaced by the Clip Jam and Clip Sport? They are much more sensibly priced than the few people selling a non-existing product for crazy money. 8GB Clip Jam is £25

Reading the reviews is often not a good thing to do.... I'm tempted! But then the M3 could be anytime now... and does sound fun

I hadn't heard about the M3 until now, looks pretty good. I'm using a X3 2nd Gen at the moment so it would be a downgrade for me but if you are in the market for a new DAP it looks like a good option.

Apparently it is going to be around $55 in the US, so it looks like a lot of bang for your buck as well.

The M3 looks good. My X3ii is good but the battery life of the M3is tempting. I do wish the X3ii was a tad warmer so if the M3 is that I'll sale my X3ii.
