mp3 software - various artists?

hi guys,

just wondering how people deal with various artist situations with their mp3s? i'm just having a play with yamipod for example (i only use itunes on one pc, and i'm on my laptop right now)

itunes will happily group compilations so is no problem, but other sotware with add thousands of new artists due to them being part of compilations...

my question is, do a lot of people just scrap the artist info and put "Various Artists"? i see this as the only neat solution although i dont really want to loose the artist info...

just wondering what people do?

you have a tag called

ALBUM ARTIST

set that to "various artists" and keep each track individually tagged with the correct ARTIST.

i use foobar, but i imagine itunes would support that tag?

I do all my tagging in Tag & Rename. I then list the artists as "Various Artists" and then in the song title I'll put Artist / Song title. Works okay for me

Snap, this is the way i do it. Tag & rename is very good. Once its renamed to various artists i can then transfer them to my Ipod without having 1000's of artists listed.

I do this. Various Artists is the artists field and I simply put Band/Song name in the song name field.
