Right, been using MP3tag with great success, woop! Two issues;

1.
There are several (hundred) tracks without album names, but they are in the correct folder(s) which have the correct album names.

I'd like to tag the songs with there corresponding album names from the folder names - I'm sure I've done this before with Foobar2000 - any help would be appreciated.

2.
I must be going blind as I'm also sure F2000 also has 'Auto-Capitalise' feature for song names. I can then go back to MP3tag and Filename -> Tag for the song title.

Help :(

Load all the albums without the "album" tag into foobar2000 > select them all > right click > Properties > Tools button (bottom left) > Automatically fill values > Select "Other" from the "Source" dropdown menu > type %directoryname% into the source field > type %album title% into the "Pattern" field > hit the Auto Capitalization button if you want > hit OK (twice).

If you want to auto-capitalize existing tag fields, just select & right-click the tracks > Properties > left-click (select) the fields you want capitalized > right-click > Capitalize

It might look a bit long-winded from the above, but it's actually very easy and explaining it takes longer than doing it. :)

won't work. the tag name is %album%. :)
errmm... yes it will, "Album Title" is a foobar2000 standard field in its default setup, which is mapped to "album" in the advanced display settings. Just "album" will work as well of course, and is your way is admittedly quicker. :)

(are you marc2003 on the HA forums BTW...?)

yup.

Here's a weird one - using Media Centre to stream mkv/avi files to the 360, decided to share my music collection just to see how media centre handles it now it's all tagged up.

5 folders randomly have no tags at all, no artist, no album, nothing!

They all have them in MP3tag / Foobar2000, genres, years, albums & artists - all 100%.

No tags in Media Player / Media Centre / Windows Explorer for just these 5 albums.

The ID3 'tag' type is the same as all the other MP3s I have - anyone seen this before?

Have a look in Mp3Tag, and check whether they're ID3v2.3 or ID3v2.4 tags - foobar2000 writes the latter by default, and they won't show up in WMP, Windows Explorer etc. If they're ID3v2.4, just rewrite them with Mp3tag, which uses ID3v2.3 by default (although it also has the option of ID3v2.4).

You can also force foobar2000 to always write ID3v2.3 tags (File > Preferences > Advanced > Tagging > MP3 > ID3v2 writer compatability mode).

Done, cheers (Didn't notice the .4 ones, all looked the same in the massive list!)

Just saved them all again and it converted them.

Sent everything to my USB stick to plug in my car (best feature ever btw) and 90% of the file names now have the last character missing - what the poop?
