MP4 and imovies

ok i have just been messing about doing some home movies with the girlfriend (not thank kind you dirty minded sods) and the sanyo that i have records in mp4 but when i try and put them in imovie it just will not have it, am i missing something here or do i need to convert them

How are you importing them?

File > Import
or
File > Import From Camera​

The reason I ask is I cannot import movies using the latter option from my Samsung R10 if they are time lapse movies (blatant plug). I have to use File > Import and select the camera from there.

Not sure if thats a camera issue, or iMovie.

This is the only thing I can think of, and not being familiar with your camera I cant offer any other solution.
