Hi All,

Can anyone help? as I am wanting to shrink my mp4 files on my PC so that I can fit them on a micro sd card for my tablet. If so, what would be the best free software to do this.

I can't recall if MP4 is lossy or lossless, but if it's lossless, then you can save space by using a lossy format. I would recommend ogg vorbit because at low birates it sounds superior to mp3. Something like 128kps vbr ogg is still good, but if you want a bit more quality I'd go for 165kps vbr

If MP4 is already lossy then don't recode it, as you're encoding one lossy format to another lossy format.

Cheers for the replies, I've been looking at handbrake, as it seems simple to use and is fast. My only problem with it is that when I start to shrink files, the first one shrinks and stays MP4 format the rest change to M4V, so my first file gets moved instead of been first in the playlist. Any help/idea with this?
