just wanted to find out if this is a bug or not, I have a Q6600/4gig ram pc with Radeon 5870 graphics card.

The same issue appears with a Nvidia 7600 card also, and on a different Q6600 PC with windows 7 64bit ultimate.

I have extended display so 24inch monitor for surfing the net/pc and on the 26inch philips LCD is the extended display for movies.

If I drag the media player hc window which is playing a video (any file divx/mkv etc) and I drag to extended view screen on the 2nd philips screen it can hang/freeze with sound still playing.

It happens perhaps 1 out of 3 times, tried 32bit and 64bit versions and older versions even tried original classic media player.

Problem is not there with other players like windows media player, bs player...Any ideas thx

I thought MPC-HD was famed for Hardware acceleration? I would have a punt at turning it off as it has caused me problems in the past with flash and I would guess it is probably something to do with it.

MPC uses DXVA hardware acceleration which other players do not, for AVI files DXVA will not be used though as these don't contain the h264 codec, only mkv/mp4 etc using H264 codecs will use DXVA so your issue isn't going to be that I don't think. Probably ATI driver related as this is not an uncommon trend with ATI cards.

I don't have the problem you mention either:

Though I am on an nVidia card.

To rule out the MPC being the issue entirely, copy my settings below for the output:

IIRC they are the default anyway. Also make sure you're not using any codec packs as they're pointless and cause problems like this as well.

I was thinking same thing also about hardware acceleration... so went from dxva to overlay mixer, I noticed it said overlay is for tv output when hovering over it it mentions it....

problems fixed, so guess can enjoy lower cpu usage during playback for now....
