My folks recently bought an Archos 504 portable media centre. They're trying to open an MPEG4 file on it and it will not open. Apparently, Archos haven't released a codec yet for it, and want to charge when they decide to release it for a download (15 bloody quid!). When they've just spent hundreds on the unit, I'm loathed to give the company more money to allow it to play files a media centre should play by default.
Would anyone know of a good program to convert an MPEG4 file to a different file type without loosing the quality of the original file? I've tried Allok MPEG converter, but whatever file type I convert it to appears to be corrupt.
Any help on this would be awesome. I've never had to convert a file before so the easier the program to use, the better (also any tips!).
