Mr Olympia 2006

Arnie wanted to look like that and won seven times. Look where he is and what he has done.

Not to mention first and second spots rake in some serious cash.

There are a couple of things I don't like about the IFBB and competetive bodybuilding which include the steroid use and politics of competitons such as Mr.O. The competitors and fans want it seen as a genuine sport but I think it'll never be so if they aren't natural. But ho hum.

As far as the competition last night, in my opinion Jay had the best package. Sure, Ronnie has more mass overall, great arms, but Jay beats his lat spread, his delts and leg conditioning. however, I do have to admit that Jay's abs look horrendous.

At the end of the day though, at this level its these guys jobs, so they have to be as big and ripped as possible, or as other see it as "abnormal" as possible

Exactly. These guys don't do this for a recreational activity, there are huge rewards for being the best and I'm not just talking about the huge cash prize. There have only been 11 winners since the competitions birth in 1965 and one of those winners went on to become one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood and finally the governer of California. As the yanks say 'Go figure'.

As far as bodybuilding goes, Mr Olympia is like what the world cup is to football. The Mr Olympia winner is arguably the most muscularly defined person on the planet. It takes determination, blood, guts, unreal genes and great sportsmanship to get that far. Hell, one of the reasons why I follow mr.o is to see who is the best in the world and secondly, the intense rivalry between Cutler and Coleman. It's like supporting England, its an emotion rollercoaster.

Unfortunately it hasnt broken into the mainstream as a bonefide sport probably due to a number of factors which include steroid use, politics and it's image.

The idea that people think that the top BB's look freaky is strange for me to comprehend, it's like saying Ronaldinho's football is too technical. These guys have insane muscularity which I can only admire. After all, it takes an extra-ordinary person to become a world champion of anything.
