Mr T & Captain Kirk do WoW!

Remember seeing the Shatner one on TV, whatever people may think of it or the game it's still better than all the other crap ads out there. Don't get me started on over-hyped console games that half the time don't even show any in-game footage whatsoever.

hats off to blizzard, good ads lol, mr t got me giggling. and for them to show ingame gfx was risky lol, but went well.

I find games like WOW exceptionally boring and tedious and complicated (I like a good fps or driving game) but I find ads like this amazing and they make me WANT to play the games they advertise!

Remember back in the SEGA days when a "sonic" was running rampant in the real world but you never see him? then the big "TO BE THIS GOOD TAKES AGES" came up ? Well I got a MegaDrive and MegaCD after that.

What makes them lame? it's adverts like this that are remembered and liked more than the usual every day deep voiced man narrating the games premise and release with a few videos mashed together with thumping music.

It's your opinion of course but it would be interesting to know if there are trends between people who think this type of advertising is lame and why.

I myself would normally laugh at people who play WOW for hours on end (wrong of me I know, I'm so terrible *gloveslap* etc :p) just to get a decent level character but I genuinely liked these adverts more than the original WOW adverts themselves - for me knowing that a person such as Shatner or Mr T plays such games (oh not forgetting Robin Williams!) inspires me to hook in as well but of course I'm not an RTS or RPG gamer.

Why are they lame? A better question would be why are they good. One advert has Bill Shatner in pajamas talking about how he is a shaman with some intercut clips of a tauren. What on earth is funny about that?
Then theres Mr T saying how he has a 'night-elf mohawk' when some offscreen director (the premise of which is lame as it is) tells him that he's actually a warrior. Again, where exactly is the funny there?
Reminds me of those kid's comedy shows on Childrens BBC with the canned laughter - but then again I suppose this is the demographic they are aiming for.

Lets face it, WOW adverts will be preaching to the converted mainly - existing players will see it and LOLZ because of the novelty of seeing the game on TV, non-WOW gamers will see the advert and not really understand what it's about, just 'oh thats the game that the nerds play'. Everyone else who knows nothing about gaming will just simply be 'WTF'.

I would be amazed if Shatner or Mr T played WOW...

Often wondered if many actual famous people play MMO games. Imagine being mates with someone in game ... hanging out for a few years. Turns out its like Prince Harry :p

Mr T one is the better one, but Mr T rocks what ever he does! :D .
It's also the only one i've actually seen aired on tv.

I thought maybe a gnome but then I thought they might be ironic and do a Draenei instead. I'm also betting a warrior.
