Anyone here that's knowledgable with this program?

I'm using MS DPM 2012R2 in an attempt to replace backup exec 2012 with something we don't have to pay for but I'm stuck at a point...

When creating protection groups, i select the data i want to backup, give it details about the time and day i want the backup to occur, then i go to setup another protection group and i can't select any data from the same drive that i previously created a protection group for.

For example if i have H:\Software from server FS1 to be backed up one day, then the next day i want to backup H:\documents from that same server, i can't select H:\ anymore because it already exists in a previous protection group. What's the recommended way of doing this?

I have about 3.5TB of data i need to backup over the course of a week or two, but only LTO4 tapes (800GB uncompressed) so my backups tend to be very customised as to what i do each day, but at the moment i can't see how to do that in DPM?

Although I use DPM 2010 rather than 2012, I presume it's similar in most ways.

I'm afraid this is a limitation of DPM, yes. You can't put different folders on the same volume in different protection groups.
