i was wondering whats the best site to get a test exam set for the 70-271 exam? i tried testkings but i dont have a credit card (only switch) so thats outta the question is there any other sites that have downloadable test exams for around the same fee? ($60)

I did 70-270 a few years back and used the microsoft mcse training books, they had a fair few test questions on the disk to the same standard. (I passed)

I also read through some of microsoft's technet doc's on stuff I didn't understand, that helped a lot.

I was always a bit disappointed with mock exams as most were either way to easy or hard.

I almost feel it's worth just taking the real exam just to gauge the level required, if it's your first time.

But the real exam is around 100 quid isnt it? I used practice exams to pass my 70-270 and got around a 97% pass mark.

www.examcollection.com

u may have to spend a tenner on the software but it gives u access to hundreds of practice exams! Money very well spent if you ask me ;)

yea the exams gonna cost me £88 i believe, also i have already sat it just tuesday past for free (college had a voucher to allow so many people free exams) so i've already experienced most of it.
have to say you guys are mentioning a different exam (70-270) while im on about the 70-271, is there any difference then?

70-271: Supporting Users and Troubleshooting a Microsoft Windows XP Operating System.

70-270: Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft Windows XP Professional.

Never even heard of 70-271 until now. It looks like 70-270 is more advanced stuff (not that its hard ;)).

Just memorise a few hundred questions from examcollection.com and take the test, easy peasy :)

I think you want to do 270 as that's on the mcse track where as 271, doesn't count I belive.

Looks like 270 is more XP in a domain environment rather than the actual OS itself.

Sometimes I do wonder if you are right. Many employers now do practical testing to weed out the "paper" certified people and it's not just an MS problem I've seen a CCNP who couldn't complete a simple two router frame relay practical test.

:(

And the point of that is? To become a paper MCSE with no real world skills?

Maybe you're right but the "microsoft" way of doing things isnt exactly real world now is it :p

I do agree that generally on some on questions I would choose an answer not listed if I was faced with the problem in the real world but due to the limitation in testing you can only present so many options.

Short of the CCIE lab test (which is both expensive and only available in a relatively small number of locations) there isn't really any vendor with a certification path that represents the real world very well but I'd much prefer to have someone with an understanding on concepts working on a server than someone who managed to remember if the answer to a question was A,B,C,D or E.

Yeah dont get me wrong experience is worth more than qualifications most of the time, its taken me about 3 years to get a job in IT mainly because I have no work experience.

I like to think im very competent when it comes to using XP-Pro, but even knowing as much as i do I doubt I would have passed this exam if I didnt learn a lot of the test questions before hand!

There are two ways of knowing an OS - 1) Learn yourself picking up tips from other people and..

2) Know the MS way! - Thats how you pass the exam.

I took the Windows 2000 Server exam and failed. Then i decided to study for it using an MS book and then passed.

I am now looking at taking my Server 2003 R2 exam.

@ sja360: Good luck when you get round to doing the exam. It does make a difference to most employers. We look for it when interviewing new staff.

went and bought the exam manager thing you suggested n3x, hopefully within a few weeks i'll have passed the 70-271 exam and then fingers crossed got a job that'll put me through to MCSE qualifications after a few years.
