Hi.

I am trying to stop cetain users from sending or receiving email externally as I only want them to be able to send/receive from other AD users.

Currently I have set up a new Transport rule that says:

Anyone who is a memory of "Group" will silently drop the message unless sent to a contact inside the organisation.

This seems to stop them sending emails to outside addresses.

However I seem unable to create a rule to stop the emails coming in from the outside world.

I think it is possible to do this by setting the message delivery restrictions to only accept from authenticated users. However I cannot find a way to do this global - do I have to do each user individually?

Any help would be great

Can't you just removed their external SMTP address? (create a custom recipient policy if you need to do for multiple users)

This is to be used in a school so I want them to have address in case they want to enable it in the future.

Teaching the kids their email addresses now will mean they can switch whenever they want without having to teach them the new email address.

I knew how to do this in Exchange 2003 as you could do it in AD, but of course Exchange 2007 doesn't have tabs in AD anymore :(

So why can't you use a transport rule?

Apply rule to messages from users outside the organisation
and sent to people, or sent to a member of distribution list
silently drop

When you wirte it like that it seems possible.

I tried to do it before but couldn't get my head around it. I've set it up now so will see what happens.

Thanks
