MS Exchange - Retrieving Data?

I have recently installed a new MS Exchange mail server, upgraded spec from the old one, I have copied everything across and all is working fine, but, whenever I turned the old one off and the new one was running 'alone' some when you click on some emails a message box pops up saying "outlook is retrieving data from <Server name>" and crashes.

Basically it seems its trying to retrieve data from the old server, if both servers are on it is fine...but if the old one is turned off its trying to find some data :S

Anyone got any ideas/clues as to what it is trying to find?

Thanks

Did you add it as a second server to the same domain or something else. I guess what I am saying is what do you mean by "copied everything across" ?

Second server to the same domain, yes. It has replaced the main server. Basically i have added all mailboxes onto the new server from the old one.

seems like outlook has cache issues. your servers seems to be fine.
can you try to deconfigure the account from outlook, close outlook and the configure again.
that should help you.

also does it happend on all machines with outllook? how did you upgraded?

Try turning on cached exchange mode in Outlook.

I recently had similar issues with an sbs2k3 machine that we host for a customer. It can be down to a few things mainly being disk access times, slow connections (although if its on a lan this shouldn't be your issue), too many items in mailbox folders, anything above 3-5000 items in a folder can have a negative impact apparently.

We resolved the issue by turning on cached exchange mode by default on all Outlook clients and moving the machine over to a new HP DL460 G5 server with 4x72GB 10k SAS drives in RAID10, 4GB of RAM and dual Quad Core 2GHz XEONS. Completely overkill but at least system performance is no longer an issue. It was a double RAM double processor deal and we couldn't resist.
