Hi, I've got the new dark grey silver ms intellimouse 3.0 which I've I think almost a year now, and it has this strange bug where in games it will switch to other weapons by itself. I've also noticed it isn't reading surfaces as well as it used to.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

I had an MS explorer yonks ago, first thing I noticed was the wheel just got clogged up with crap so easily, probably why stuff changes on its own, take it apart an clean it up is my suggestion!

edit: the new 3.0? the 3.0 is years old unless you bought old stock - do you mean the 4.0?

five year warranties on the explorer - i have one. great mouse but it does get full of gunk easily - this is more than likely the reason its not reading the surface very well.

the weapon changing thing is not a bug exactly - its just that the wheel is so light and doesnt click very well to hold it in place - the mousewhell is how weapons are changned in many FPS's.

Clean it if you can get it open - i dont have that option because the screw head is worn through on mine after the last time.

So i'm not the only one, my wheel stopped working alltogether and I decided to open it and have a look. The screws are incredibly stiff, and I have managed to totally round off the head on one of them - considered drilling it but have decided against it for the moment ;).

I have this one: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=KB-060-MS&groupid=702&catid=23&subcat=3

The new improved version of the 3.0. But, already like I said it's already showing signs of wear. I might give that a go, taking the mouse apart, but I don't really like the idea to be honest.

its under warranty - MS will replace it - ive heard tales about them sending a new one out before you send the broekn one back however i have never tested it myself.

lol yeah im twitching for my dremel as i type.

the irony is that the annoying weapon switching mentioned above has stopped...because the wheel is gunked up - cant figure out which is the less of two evils atm.
