Im trying to get a mates HTPC work properly. MCE does not play DVDs as it claims the codecs are missing.
I went to the MS support site for MCE and yes they recommend some codecs but all of them come with a price.
That is pretty insulting. The whole reason for buying MCE is for integration and easy-to-use, and not having to fiddle about with drivers and paying more.

This is really ******* annoying and insulting from MS. ARRGRHG!#¤! ¤!#¤ !¤#!#Q#"2525

I will be using Welton Way for sure.

FULLY star your swearing.

Same reason WMP won't play DVDs out of the box - no MPEG-2 codec. I assume MS aren't allowed to give them away.

I use nvidia pure video bronze cost me a £5... not the most expensive component to buy when your making a Media Centre :)

You can download a 30 day trial @ nvidia.com

Ive been looking all over for mpeg 2 codecs :(

I installed power DVD5.0 which came on the CD of the GFX card.
it works fine as a stand alone player but it does not solve the 'codec issue' in MCE. GAYness.

Any ideas?
