Does anyone use Microsoft Office 11 for OSX? What's the compatibility like with the Windows version?

The reason I ask is that about 5 years ago a relative was debating whether to buy an iMac but needed to use MS Office for work. We got the version of MS Office for OSX available at the time, which worked but sometimes the documents it produced weren't fully compatible with the Windows version.

My gf now wants a MacBook Air but again needs MS Office for work. Will it be 100% compatible with the Windows version or should we go down the Parallels route? Which such limited disk space, I'm reluctant to go down the Boot Camp route.

I use office 11 on the MBP & Office 2010 on bootcamp and there are no compatibility issues that I have noticed.

Just remember that if you require MS Access, the Mac version of Office doesn't include this.

(I use Filemaker Pro myself instead...)

If you have a licence for MS Office on Windows to use, you may find Parallels/VMWare Fusion etc the ideal solution for you - save the cost of purchasing a Mac version of Office.

I use VMWare Fusion to run Xara graphic design software amongst other apps - and the speed on modern machines (I've a mid-2010 iMac) is absolutely fine.

Another thumbs up for Office in Parallels - i run a number of large macros in Excel and my MacBook handles them no problem, no slowdown at all when back in OSx. For me this has been a showstopper as before i got my Mac i physically couldn't use my computer at all whilst running these macros.

Just a note to say that office 2008 (mac version) with the updates handles most of the new windows office documents formats and extensions fine.

I've been running office 2011 on my mac since it come out and I've not come across any documents with or without macros that it can't handle.

Bought 2011 the other day and it's a nice little update over 2008. Wouldn't say it completely blows 2008 out of the water but there is a noticeable improvement all round.

I haven't had any compatibility problems with the Windows side of things on 2008, so wouldn't expect any with 2011. I was typing documents at home (Mac) for use in Uni (Windows).
