Trying to someone out with their iMac and it isn't really my sort of thing.

They're wanting to install a version of Excel.

It's an iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011) running High Sierra 10.13.6. This appears to be too old to allow a current edition of MS Office to install and can't be upgraded to a newer version of macOS.

I'm thinking that the only option is going to be getting hold of an old boxed copy of Office for Mac. Any reason why that isn't going to work?

If they've got a Office 365 subscription (i do believe retail licences work but i've never tried personally) then Office v16.43.0 was the last to support MacOS 10.13.6, which you can grab from https://macadmins.software (site ran by Microsoft Mac dev guys; Paul Bowden etc).

Thanks. I'll pass that information along to them.

I think they'd be more comfortable with an O365 subscription than they would with a grey key, even if it'll cost them more.
