Is there any way it would be possible for me to run MS Office from my windows partition while in ubuntu? I know there are open source alternatives that work fine in linux, such as open office, but what i intend to do is take advantage of the MS offer for students, and get MS office 2007 ultimate which is selling for around £470 for just £39 using the special offer for students.

It would be great if i could simply set up outlook that i get with it, and use it while in ubuntu, as with the other programs, rather then have to find and set up a duplicate set of programs in ubuntu.

Crossover claims that Office 2007 will partially work. That might be fine for you, depending on what you're doing, but if you really need to run Windows-only programs you really need to be using Windows to do it. The older versions of Office are better supported, particularly 2003 and XP.

Evolution is pretty much a less mental version of Outhouse. What I did, when flitting between OS's, was set one mail client to "leave mail on server" so that although I could check and send email from either, it was only properly archived on one.

Duplicate programs, while a pain to set up, can be a real saver of backsides.....if one of them misbehaves, it's alternative can be used to check or bail you out. OpenOffic has a truly bizarre ability to actual fix broken office files. A mate of mine who lives in london, used to mail me work documents, where she'd made one of those little formatting booboo's that sort of dog you forever. Usually just loading it into OO and saving back out sorts it out.....crazy stuff.
